Zwoleński Poviat was first established in 1955 and 20 years later it was liquidated after the administrative reform implemented in 1975. As a result of the territorial government reform on 1 January 1999 it was founded again in a new shape, with new duties and in a new political and economic reality. It’s one of 42 districts in the Mazovia Voivodship. The crest of the poviat is a shield portioned in two, vertically. On the red right field, there is a white-tailed eagle and on the blue left field, there is a black raven with the golden ring in its beak placed on the golden letter S. The flag of the poviat is a rectangular piece of cloth with two equal horizontal bands of blue and red, and with the crest in the center. The history and traditions of the land are reflected in the crest, emphasizing status quo of the poviat. The white-tailed eagle refers directly to the crest of Mazovia. The golden letter S on the blue side refers to the historical crest of the town. Whereas, the raven with the ring in its beak refers to the coats of arms of Kochanowski family. It is located in the region of Mazovia, very attractive as regards its tourist values and the variety of relics of the past. It is also a resilient center of the culture tradition and folk art. Our poviat is one of the smallest in the country as far as the area and the population are concerned. However, there is one thing very important for the land, the fact that it is connected with the name of the great Polish poet Jan Kochanowski. The district of Zwoleń is situated in the south-east of the Mazovia Voivodship, on the axis of two national roads: Radom – Lublin and Warsaw-Tarnobrzeg. It covers the total area of 57,124 ha, of which 68,92% is arable land, 1,43% is covered by orchards, 4,40% by grassland, 3,2% by pastureland, nearly 15% is forests and over 7% is the remaining ground. The total population of the area is about 38,300. The following communes are parts of the poviat: · Zwoleń
The significant part of the Zwoleń commune is covered by protected areas. The most valuable virtues of the town are ancient history and continuously cultivated folk traditions. The oldest, and at the same time the only historic building in Zwoleń, is the XVI century church. It’s the second church, which was built in Zwoleń. Its history can be found in the preserved documents. However, the history of the first church is not known. A very remarkable is the fact, that Jan Kochanowski and members of his family were buried in the church walls. In the Kochanowski chapel there is an epitaph to commemorate the great poet and his parents. The remaining relics of the past, which surround Zwoleń are also connected with Jan Kochanowski. One of them is Sycyna, a village situated in the south-east of Zwoleń, where the poet was born in 1530. There are only vestigial relics from the Jan Kochanowski times. During the celebrations of 400 anniversary of the poet’s death, the foundations of the presumed manor house of Kochanowski family were discovered and they were used to reconstruct the building. · Tczów

Tczów is a very old village and its name comes from the Polish word ‘trścia’, which means thicket. The main historic building is the parish church of St. John the Baptist, which was built between 1910-1926. In the center of the village there is a monument in commemoration of the citizens murdered by Hitlerites.
· Przyłęk
Przyłęk is famous for its location in a picturesque valley of the river Plewka. Tourists can pleasantly spend time in Andrzejów-Borowiec, where there is the European Pond Turtle Nature Reserve. · Policzna museum of Jan Kochanowski
Although it is situated in the neighbouring commune Policzna, Czarnolas is connected with Zwoleń. It is the place where Jan Kochanowski spent the last days of his life. The manor house from that time burnt in 1720 and there was a Neo-Gothic chapel built on the fragments from the building. There is the museum of Jan Kochanowski situated in the manor house of Jabłonowski, which was built in 1870. In the museum there is a constant exhibition dedicated to the life and works of the great poet. There are other historic buildings in the commune: the XVI century Holy Trinity’s church in Gródek, Przeździecki Palac
Przeździecki Palac in Policzna and the XIX century St. Stephen’s church in Policzna. · Kazanów
Kazanów is situated in the valley of the river Iłżanka and it abounds in forests.
